Operations Description - Rules 2.05.2, 2.05.3(1), 2.05.3(2), and 4.OI
The mine operations description is provided on pages 57 through 66 of the Bear No. 1
and No. 2 application and pages 2.05-I through 2.05-22 of the Bear No. 3 application.
The USGS has made a finding that the proposed Bear operation will make maximum
use and conservation of the coal resource (see Attachment I).
The operations description for the Bear No. 1 and No. 2 mines is presented on
pages 57 through 59 of the Bear No. 1 and No. 2 application. The proposed
operations for the Bear No. 3 Mine are described on pages 2.05-Z through 2.05-17
of the Bear No. 3 application.
The Bear Mine is a room and pillar underground operation, currently producing
250,000 to 300,000 tons of coal per year from the C seam, in Federal Lease
No. D-044569. Presently, the coal mined by Bear Coal Company is transported
from the underground workings via the No. 1 or No. 2 portals. Due to an agreement
with ARCO, the Lease holder, operations at the Bear No. Z and No. 2 will cease
in June of 2982.
The proposed Bear No. 3 operation involves the renovation of the abandoned Edwards
Portal, and the mining of the C seam in the adjacent Federal Coal Lease No. D-052501.
Bear proposes to produce 250,000 to 300,000 tons of coal per year by room and
pillar methods. Mining during the five year permit term will be limited to the
C seam. Bear anticipates mining of the B, E, and F seams during the future five
year permit terms.
The proposed operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
