The Corley Company
Ptwm 67Y~3050 P.O. Boa 1611
COLORADO SPRINGS COLORADO SDDOt
iii iiiiuiiiiiuiii
999
® rz w_
r.~ _..,
Mr. Gregg R. Squire
Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Bldg,
I3i3 Sherman St. -
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Squire: ~ - _-. __
rta , a uses
I : ~
As you requested we have researched our maps concerning the mining activity
in the fire area. We have maps showing the following:
1. The primary mining was underground by Frank Yellico, et al, dba
Black Diamond Mine, which closed August, 1973.
2. The Corley Co. strip mined a small area on the north side of the
fire trench highwall in 1965 as shown on a R.A. Jackson 1969 map
extension.
3. Harry Weckerling, dba Canon Coal Co., strip mined the entire fire
area including the area around the Florence Water Line and the
present high wall north of the fire trench prior to Mar. 1, 1974, as
shown on a R.A. Jackson map of that date.
4. GEC completed the mining at some indeterminate time prior to Apr.
15, 1976, as shown on a R.A. Jackson map of that date.
The red ash dump area north of our old tipple site resulted from waste
disposal from our wash plant prior to 1970 when the wash plant was closed.
We hope this information is satisfactory. We can show you our map copies if
the Mine Inspector's copies have been lost.
Sincerely,
LC/ (3~ j~
W.D. Corley,
President
