TRH"PER 1RINING INC.
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
999
November 30, 1994

Ms. Bernadette Hilbourn RE~EIVFO
~£C O
r
ARD/Law Enforcement (69400) J
j99~
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
DeOnveBroCO 8022 DFC OjyjBip
00/lC7jgOraS~ ~'epjun,
Dear Ms. Hilbourn:
Re: Special Purpose Permit No. PRT-781428
Trapper Mining [nc. Swainson's Hawk Nest Relocation
Pursuant to the requirements of the above-referenced permit, please accept this letter as the second
annual report.
The Swainson's Hawk nest moved from Section 26, T6N, R91W to Section 35, T6N, R91W in
Moffat County, Colorado, as described in the first (1993) annual report, was periodically monitored
during the 1994 nesting season. No nesting activity was observed at the relocated nest site during
1994, even though the nest retrained intact and usable.
A Swainson's Hawk nest was discovered approxirnately 1.4 miles northeast of the original nest site in
Section 25, T6N, R91W during July, 1994. Two young Hedged successfully from this nest in eazly
August, 1994. This nes[ site is not in the path of future mining disturbance and will be available to
this pair of Swainson's Hawks in the future. Given the relative scarcity of Swainson's Hawks in this
part of Moffat County, I would speculate that this 1994 nesting may have involved the same pair
whose nes[ was relocated in 1993.
The general territories of the new 1994 nest site and the nest relocation area will be monitored during
the 1995 breeding season for Swainson's Hawk nesting activity. An annual report detailing any nest-
ing activity and behavior to mine-related activities will be submitted in 1995. Should any future
nesting starts located within mine conflict azeas occur, the USFWS-CFWESO in Grand Junction,
Colorado will be immediately contacted.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~u~~~~
Forrest V.
