Exit Channel 1
The cross-sections show that this feature has had some agradation in the vicinity of cross-
section 1 with some movement of the channel bottom to the north. Cross-section 2 indicates the
feature is relatively stable in this section of the channel with periods of agradation and
degradation. No corrective measures are planned as a result of the inventory, except sediment
removal upstream from the rocked section of the channel.
Exit Channel 2
Cross-section 1 shows a significant increase in depth and width from previous yeazs'
monitoring data. This portion of the exit channel was affected during the reclamation operations
of the conveyor belt corridor in late 1996. The lower section of the channel at cross-section 2
shows only minor degradation occurring when compared to 1996 data. The upper portion of the
channel will be rocked for stabilization and sediment will be removed upstream of the rocked
section of the channel.
Exit Channel 3
Data collected over the past two years at cross-section 1 shows a slight deepening and
moderate widening of the channel has occurred to form a mature trapezoidal configuration.
Cross-section 2 shows agradation occurred over the past year. The upper section of the channel
will not receive corrective measures at this time in order to evaluate the stability of the channel's
current configuration. Sediment will be removed upstream of the rocked section of the channel.
C-BUILDING HILLSLOPE
This section provides information about a potentially unstable slumped portion of the
hillslope between the Goat Trail and the previous C-Building access route. Monitoring of the
hillslope was initiated in mid-1996 using the method described in the Inventory Methods section
of this document. It is believed that the slumped area has existed at this location for an extended
period of time. In previous yeazs, the slump remained active due to maintenance efforts along
the access route to the C-Building. The route maintenance consisted of continually removing the
toe of the slump to enable access to the C-Building. As a result, the slump azea continued to
move downslope on to the access route. In conjunction with reclamation activities associated
with the conveyor system in late 1996, this route was reclaimed in accordance with the Goat
Trial reclamation plan. It is anticipated that discontinued maintenance of the route will allow the
toe of the slump to remain intact and enable the slump area to stabilize.
The slump area exhibited slight movement over the first monitoring period. Movement
measured along the upper transect consisted of a two inch displacement occurring at both the east
and west stakes. Movement measured along the lower transect consisted of a three inch
displacement at the east stake and a one inch displacement at the west stake. Due to the limited
length of record concerning the slump's movement and amount of movement noted, no corrective
measures are planned at this time.
