Mr. Henry Aus[in
Office of Surface Mining
Page 2
Februazy 3, 2000
During the final reclamation period. SCC has implemented innovative methodologies for shrub
establishment and should be commended for their overall revegetation efforts. They have
developed a program for native shrub seedling transplants with high survival rates. In addition,
SCC has tried several native shrub seeding techniques on reclaimed lands. Through SCC's
efforts, the State has a better understanding of native shrub establishment on reclaimed lands.
All shrub establishment techniques, as well as developments with seed mixes are carefully
documented each yeaz. SCC's exemplary reclamation monitoring program documents their
successful and unsuccessful revegetation efforts. These well documented results of shrub
establishment techniques, effects of grazing and native plant establishment have enhanced the
State's understanding of effective and feasible reclamation practices.
Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this nomination. We look forwazd to your
response concerning this application.
Sincerely,
M~1~
Michael P. Boulay
Environmental Protection Specialist
Enclosure (s)
David Berry
Lany Routten
Michael Altavilla, SCC
Roy Karo, SCC
