r
Sample locations have been selected which fall in the mid-upper and
lowest surface elevation of each soil type. It is concluded that
when these tensiometers read below negative 1/2 bar, topsoil can be
stripped and transferred to the stockpile area. Two soil types
require removing the soil in lifts. We have proposed to locate the
sampling probes at the bottom of each lift. This will insure that
each lift is below (drier than) the criteria for stockpiling
topsoil when the tensiometer reading is below negative 1/2 bar.
Such moisture sampling will be done prior to stripping of the soil
in the irrigated areas.
Since the current use of this land is agricultural, a single fence
post with bright flagging on it, or some other visual device will
be placed at each probe location. This will act as a locator for
mine personnel collecting the data and will also protect the probe
from damage by vehicles, equipment, etc.
The stockpiled soil will be revegetated and maintained to minimize
erosion. Drainage ditches will be constructed to minimize erosion
and route runoff water to a sedimentation control device.
During 'irrigation season, the following steps will be taken to
minimize the infiltration of the irrigation water into the proposed
mining area prior to topsoil stripping.
• The ditch water diversion points supplying water to the
mining area will be shut off. Western Fuels - Colorado
owns fifty (50) shares of ditch water supplied to this
area.
~ The runoff water entering the proposed mining area from
the neighboring lands will be routed through existing
ephemeral drainage and/or ditches constructed for this
purpose.
~ If necessary, a sump may be created toward the lower end
of the proposed mining property, to collect infiltrating
water. This water will be pumped and find its way to the
proposed Pond 007 via a system of ditches to be
constructed for the purpose.
