Walker to Wolf
July 14, 1999
Pale 2 of 2 Pales
In a related letter (May 25, 1999), Colowyo proposes no monitoring of ephemeral or intermittent
streams (omitted under Surface Water Sites, page 1). The Division asks that Colowyo include
the sampling of ephemeral or intermittent streams with the same program as for perennial
streams. Where such sampling is to take place would be specifically designated, as has been
done for all points to be sampled. This avoids requirements to classify streams.
In Table 3, please designate the 2nd and 4d' quarters for the semi-annual monitoring (based on a
calendar yeaz, Permit, page 4.05-12). The purpose of this change is to increase the probability of
flow at the time of sampling.
No monitoring frequencies were proposed for springs and seeps. From our telephone
conversation (and the July 12, 1999 e-mail), we understand that the program will apply to all
springs, not just the four lazgest flows (Colowyo letter of May 25, 1999). The Division suggests
the same monitoring parameters as for surface streams but with frequencies of 2"d and 4d' quarter
for field sampling of all springs, and 2"d quarter laboratory sampling for springs with flows
greater than 5 gallons per minute.
The monitoring frequency of stock ponds needs to be added to Table 3
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Yours truly,
~~ ~ ~~~
Byron G.
