.....
.....
""'RESOURCE
.....
^^^^^ E N G I N E E R I N G I N C
Mr. Gil Lee
Central Aggregates
PO Box 26
Rifle CO 81650
RE: Gravel Pit Water Rights
Dear Gil:
September 15, 1998
Following our last telephone conversation I visited the U.S. SCS office in Glenwood
Springs to review aerial photographs for the determination of historic irrigation on your
gravel pit site. A review of 1968 and 1989 photographs revealed that as mush as 22 t
acres had been irrigated. This would be consistent with .5 cfs of Pioneer Ditch water
right which you said is associated with the property.
The land is no longer irrigated but could generate about 40 to 45 acre feet of historic
consumptive use credit which could be used to augment future evaporative losses from
the gravel pit. The evaporation rate is 3.19 acre feet/acre per year but much of this
occurs during the non-irrigation season when there is no call on the Colorado River.
About 2.7 AF occurs during the irrigation season and only about 2.1 AF is during the
call period. In other words, you will need 2.1 AF of augmentation water for each acre
of pond surface.
We can claim about 45 AF of historic consumptive use from the 22 acres of historic
irrigation which will account for about 21 acres of pond evaporation. The remaining
amount will require augmentation from other sources. Other sources could include
on-site storage which can be isolated from ground water. It could also be storage in
Ruedi Reservoir, Green Mountain Reservoir, or Wolford Mountain Reservoir.
Please let me know how much exposed pond surface area you will have after final
reclamation so we can calculate your need.
Sincerely,
RESO E ENGINEERING, INC.
Paul S.
