R~~~~~ ~'~...;~i~
COLORADO ~
HISTORICAL
SOCIETY
MAR 1:~ 2006
~~
~Drvtatpn of Minerals and Geology
The Colorado I3iatory Museum 1300 Broadway Denver, Colorado 80203-2137
March 7, 2006
Thomas A. Schreiner
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Loveland Ready Mix Concrete Inc., Larimer Pit (Permit No. M-1974-069) (CHS #40548)
Deaz Mr. Schreiner:
v
This is to acknowledge receipt of your correspondence dated February 27, 2006 (received by otu office on March 6)
concenting the project listed above.
Based on the maps and information provided, a search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory indicated that four
historic resources have been recorded within or very near the proposed pemtit area. As the map provided does not
clearly indicate the location of the 7.74 acre parcel designated as Pit # 10, it is not clear if any of these four sites are
located within the proposed amendment to the current pemtit area (Pit # 10 aka Pazce16, described as located in the SE
quarter of Section 16 and the SW quarter of Section IS).
However, all four of these aze located within the combined limits of the current and proposed permit areas. Site SLR814
(Fort Namaqua/Mariano's Crossing) was recorded in August 1982 but its eligibility for the National Register of Historic
Places (NRHP) has never been determined. Site 5LR819 (Peterson Gravesi[e) was also recorded th August 1982 and
was recommended as not eligible for the NRHP. Site SLR9631 (the Barnes DitchBig Barnes Ditch) was determined
eligible for the NRHP in 1999. It was recommended in 1999 that additional information was necessary to determine the
NRHP eligibility of site SLR503 (the Loveland-Greeley Canal).
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities the requirements under State law CRS 24-80 part 13
apply and must be followed.
Please note that our review of your project is expedited when you indicate the extent of the proposed permit area on
a legible portion of the appropriate and clearly identified 7.5 minute USGS topographic map.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment If we maybe of further assistance, please contact Greg Wolff, Compliance
Coordinator, at (303) 866-4674.
Sincerely, r~iA
`~v~
eorgianna Contiguglia
Stale Historic Preservation Officer
GCIGAW
