3. The Division has not field checked any sites that we would
consider exploration trenches. Assuming exploration trenches
were used, the reclamation plans proposed appear appropriate.
4. Many miles of roads were traveled during our joint field
inspection. In general, the plans to retain and remove roads
as we observed same in the field appear appropriate. As I
understand the plan, there are generally three categories
regarding road reclamation;
A) roads to remain as roads
B) roads to be reclaimed but requiring minimal or no earthwork
C) roads to be reclaimed requiring slope and drainage
restoration
For those roads in category B, our only comment is that
drainage control must be restored to a condition which will
minimize erosion and prevent long-term drainage problems.
This likely can be accomplished through the use of water bars,
cross-drains, or minimal drainage re-establishment activities.
For the record, I have summarized my notes from our joint field
inspection below. Please review my comments and let me know if my
notes are in conflict with any reclamation plans proposed.
Tuesday, June 18, 1996
Time Site Comments and observations
1:31 pm Site NM-9-94 This site is on Floyd Chavez' property
and is accessed via a pre-existing road
which begins at the center of the section
7/18 boundary (T335, R67W) and proceeds
northwest up a drainage to the site. The
site has not been reclaimed and the mud
pit remains open and has been used for
household trash disposal. It was
originally spotted on the Exploration
Drill Hole map as NM17. This site
requires reclamation and the road will
require minimal or no reclamation work,
depending on lease agreements.
2:01 Site GE-77-95 This site is located on a ridge
overlooking Sawmill Canyon in the NW/4 of
Section 16. It was completed as a
monitoring well in anticipation of future
mining plans. This site will be
reclaimed and the road from the site back
to NM19 (NM25 originally) will also be
reclaimed, likely using a backhoe to
restore the slope and drainage.
