-12-
Two sites identified during the cultural resources survey are located within
the Munger Canyon Mine plan boundaries. Site SGF742, a pictograph, is
recommended as being eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic
Places, while SGF743, an old homestead, is not. The homestead is adjacent
to the haul road for the mine, with the pictograph further removed from the
road on the canyon wall, Neither site will be disturbed by the proposed
operation. Because of this, and since SGF742 is not actually listed on the
National Register of Historic Places, a mitigation plan is not required (see
Rule 2.05,6(4)),
The applicant has satisfactorily sampled areas that may be impacted at a
future data.
Pursuant to Rule 2.07.6(2)(e), the Division finds the applicant will not adversely
affect any publicly owned park or place Listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
SV, Geology - Rules 2.04,5 and 2.04.6(2)
The applicant has supplied a description of the geology of the permit and
adjacent areas in Sections 4.2 and 4.3 of Volume I of t1:e application. These
sections have been reviewed by the Division to determine conformance with the
Colorado Rules and Regulations.
Sheridan Enterprises has submitted geochemucal and physical analyses of the
roof, floor and coal for the Cameo seam from the McClave Canyon Mine (Tables
2.1-4, 2.1-5 and 2.1-6a, Volurre I, McC1ane Canyon permit application),
roof and floor analyses for the Cameo seam from the Munger Canyon Mine (Tables
4,2-1A and 4.2-1B, Volume I, Munger Canyon permit application) and the composite
roof and floor analysis for the Upper Carbonera seam from the Munger Canyon
Mine (Table 4.2-1, Volume I, Munger Canyon permit application). No analyses
were submitted for the stratum through which rock slopes will be driven between
the Cameo and Upper Carbonera seams.
The geochemical analysis of the Upper Carbonera roof and floor strata (Table
4.2-I) does not contain all of the parameters required by the Division. Since
waste material from these rock strata wi1Z be deposited in the waste rock site,
an analysis of the remaining parameters must be completed and submitted prior
to driving the rock slopes to the Upper Carbonera seam. These rock slopes will
not be driven and mining will not commence until 1983 (see Figure 2.1-5, Volume
II), The following stipulation is required to find the applicant in compliance
with Rules 2.04.5 and 2.04.6:
Stipulation No. 1
SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THE DRIVING OF ROCK SLOPES WITHIN THE HUNGER
CANYON MINE FROM THE CAMEO COAL SERM TO THE UPPER CARBONERA COAL SEAM,
THE APPLICANT MUST SUBMIT GEOCHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL ANALYSES OF THE
UPPER CARBONERA ROOF AND F7AOR STRATA AND ALL INTERBURDEN STRATA
BETWEEN THE CAMEO AND UPPER CARBONERR COAL SEAMS WHICH WLLL BE
ENCOUNTERED IN THE ROCK SLOPES.
