Boz 310 <br />San Luis, Colorado 81152 <br />Dear Mr. Dodson: <br />Thank you for providing Industrial Compliance (IC) with the opportunity to assist you in <br />evaluating the cause of death of the specimen received by on office on May 8, 1992. <br />One duck was found at the site. The specimen was frozen and delivered to the IC office in <br />Golden, Colorado. Upon receipt, the specimen was immediately transported to the Colorado <br />State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory for necropsy, cyanide levels, and heavy <br />metal determinations. <br />Gross Pathology <br />The specimen was found to be in poor body condition indicating that death had occurred <br />several days prior to discovery. Body emaciation was also noted. <br />Histopatholoev <br />The heart, liver, kidney, lungs, spleen, small intestine, pancreas, proventricultts and <br />ventriculus were examined. A mild infiltrate was noted in the submucosa of the kidney, and <br />the lungs were found to be moderately edematous. The spleen, small intestine, pancreas, <br />proventriculus and ventriculus were found to contain parasitic (nematode) larvae. Ice crystal <br />"artifact" was found throughout. No typical tonic or degenerative lesions were noted. <br />Toxicoloev <br />Cyanide was not detected in the specimen. Liver and kidney levels of azsenic. cadmium, <br />lead, mercury and selenium were found to be within "normal limits". <br />Dedicated to solving your environmental problems. <br />A Subsitliary of SP Environmental Systems, Inc.
