by employing a "reverse null" hypothesis test, than by obtaining the number of sample
observations necessary to meet statistical sample adequacy. For normally distributed data, a
minimum sample size of 15 is recommended. For sampling data that is not normally
distributed, a minimum sample size of thirty should be collected.
For 2002 irrigated pasture reclamation area Greystone collected 50 samples. Although the data
did not achieve sample adequacy application of the "Reverse Null" hypothesis demonstrated
that reclamation success was achieved and this more stringent test eliminates the requirement to
achieve statistical sample adequacy since the minimum sample size was achieved.
Cover
2001 vegetative cover data for the irrigated pasture was collected to adequacy for both the
reclaimed azea and the reference azea. Irrigated pasture reference area cover in 2001 was 22.6%.
Ninety percent equals 20.3% cover as the required cover success standazd based upon the 2001
sampling. Vegetative cover on the irrigated pastute in July 2001 measured 42.7%. The
reclaimed aze successfully achieved and exceeded the required cover standazd for 2001.
Although productivity data was not collected to adequacy in 2002, cover data on the irrigated
pasture reference area and irrigated pasture reclaimed azea were collected to adequacy.
Vegetated cover measured on the nrigated pasture reference azea in June 2002 was 8.2%, not
including noxious species or undesirable fortis. The ninety percent standazd as required by Rule
4.15.8(3) equals7.38% vegetative cover for 2002 data. Measured vegetative cover on the
reclaimed irrigated pasture in 2002 was 8.06%, not including noxious species or undesirable
fortis.
Species Diversi
The reclamation success for species diversity calls for the establishment of three cool-season
perennial grasses and one perennial forb. Each species must have a minimum relative cover of
3 percent and a maximum relative cover of 40 percent. Four grass species; Smooth brome,
Slender wheatgrass, Westem wheatgrass, and Orchazdgrass meet this criteria, while Alfalfa
achieves the perennial forb requirement in the 2001 reclaimed irrigated pasture area. No single
species exceeded the upper limit of 40 percent relative cover. 2002 reclaimed irrigated pasture
data demonstrated that three perennial grasses, Smooth brome, Slender wheatgrass, and Westem
wheatgrass fulfill the required diversity standazd, and Alfalfa meets the perennial forb
requirement for species diversity.
Reclamation Success
Kaiser Ventures has achieved reclamation success for cover, productivity, and species diversity
for the irrigated pasture based on 2001 and 2002 sampling data.
