Loc hhead
Execu:nr Dirtrlor
Michael tl. Lonp
Division Di~rarn
The Division of Minerals and Geology (Division) has completed
review of the map and revision information submitted by Bill
Harbrecht with regard to the preliminary plans for reclamation at
the Golden Eagle Mine. While this information was not formally
submitted or accepted as a revision to the permit, we are providing
our comments or questions as requested.
1. Review of the map submitted under the cover letter of May 13,
1996 indicated that Pond 3 would not be retained during the
re-vegetation period. Based on my discussions with Bill
Harbrecht, Pond 3 will, in fact, remain during the period of
revegetation until demonstrated to the Division that it is no
longer necessary for erosion and sediment control.
2. The same map indicates the warehouse and the quonset but would
remain to support the post-mining land use. As per my
discussions with you on July 16, 1996, both these buildings,
the warehouse area bench, and the short spur of road to the
buildings will be removed.
3. The currently approved post-mining topography does not
presently represent any remaining depression in the vicinity
of the portal slope. From review of the information submitted
under cover of June 17, 1996 from Bill Harbrecht, with regard
to concrete disposal, it is evident that Basin proposes to
modify the approved post-mining topography of the portal slope
area. Rule 4.14.1(2)(a) requires disturbed areas be returned
to approximate original contour, except as provided under
Rules 4.14.1(2)(e),(f),(g), 4.27.4, and 2.06.5. In this case,
addressing the requirements of Rules 4.14.1(2)(f)(i)-(v) would
appear to be necessary. Please review these Rules. In
addition to a modification of the portal slope area, a change
