GEC MINERALS, INC.
FLORENCE, COLORADO 81226
P.O. BOX 225
Mr. Pete Evans
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Subject: Proposed Sediment Control in Dam D Area
Dear Pete:
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
303/784-6891
August 11, 1980
RECEIVED
AU G 1 ~? 1980
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
Colo. Dept. of Natural Resources
Per your recent request, CEC is pleased to conduct a preliminary
Sediment Control Plan in the Dam D area. This plan is subject to
your approval and or revision at our meeting tomorrow, August 12,
1980.
According to the attached copies, which I reproduced from the
approved Sediment Control ifap (Application for Ammendment to Mining
and Reclamation Permit ;)77-48) there was an existing underground
working drift (size: 4' x 4', Peacock Mine(?) - colored in yelLow).
This drift extends approximately 300' long and 2' to 20' below the
surface. Also, this coal seam happens to be the same coal seam that
Dorchester Colomine Coal is mining and will be one of the same seams
that GEC will mine.
.lAs we discussed before, in order to seperate the fresh water from the
~: disturbed water, the most reasonable approach to handle Dam D area
;~;~ ill be to build up a small bank at the bottom of the existing un-
' named stream. The size of the bank will be approximately 70' long,
r:~8' high, and approximately 10' wide. In addition to this bank, a 4'
i.; wide trench has to be cut, starting Erom the North end of this bank
~': northward 250' to connect with [he existing Magpie Creek Diversion
'. Channel which happens to be the West end of Dam D. The trench could be
20' deep. (The proposed bank is marked in solid red and the proposed
trench will be marked in red colored dashes.)
Approximately the only place that should and will be sealed off will
be the intersection between tl~e proposed trench and the old under-
ground drift, which should be approximately 15' below the surface.
This entire plan will cost CEC a lot of money and we will have to
contribute a lot of time which we have not asked credit for.
