Lochhead
Executive Dirttlor
Michael B. Long
Division Director
The Division has placed an order with the Colrado State Forest
Service for Ponderosa Pines to be planted at the GEC Mine. Based
on your December 16, 1994 letter and my conversation with Anne
Corley last week, the Division ordered 780 potted Ponderosa Pines,
780 fertilizer tablets and 2 1/4 pounds of polyacrylamide gel.
Anne indicated a preference for using fertilizer and gel rather
than fertilizer and game protection nets, as mentioned in your
earlier letter. The CSFS indicated that 90 trees could be treated
with 1/4 pound of gel, hence the 2 1/4 pounds in the order.
The above items cost $798.05. They will be paid for with $800
retained from the Harrison Western funds for the GEC West Pit, as
per our agreement dated October 26, 1994. The trees are to be
planted by The Corley Company as outlined in your letter of January
23, 1995. The CSFS indicated the trees would be delivered to Canon
City in April. The Division will notify you as soon as possible of
the delivery date.
To follow up on our phone conversation of last week, the Division
understands that,
1. The Corley Company is not charging the Division for work
performed, nor are its employees serving as employees of the State
of Colorado. Those individuals are insured by The Corley Company.
2. The Division of Minerals and Geology has no further
involvement with this project after expenditure of funds for the
trees, other than conducting required mine inspections.
3. The Corley Company is not responsible for results following
planting of the trees.
