Watcher
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cottony
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division received notice from American Soda that Well 20-12 will be plugged and abandoned due
to the inability to maintain the mechanical integrity of the well casing. American Soda intends to install
a Time Domain Reflectometery Cable (TDA) in the T short string casing after the removal of the 4'
production tubing and at the installation of a cast iron bridge plug.
The Division does not believe that a revision to the DMG Permit needs to be filed at this time for the
installation of the TDR cable on We1120-12. The approved subsidence-monitoring plan includes a
combination of the TDR and borehole geophysical techniques (natural gamma log) to determine
subsurface movement. Any changes to the subsidence-monitoring plan noted above will require the
filing of a technical revision to the permit. In addition, if American Soda intends to change the plugging
and abandonment plan, then the Division should be notified, and a determination will be made if such
change requires a revision to the permit.
The Division would like to conduct an inspection of the site during the plugging of We1120-12. Please
inform the Division as to when well plugging will commence.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 303-866-4943.
Si ly,
ros-by /
Environmental Protection pecialis[
Enclosure /
cc: Carl Mount; DMG (via e-mail)
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
