Lochhead
Etecwive Dveaor
Michael B. Long
Division Dueaor
I have discussed with Harry Ranney in-house field equipment and
survey methods for completing an accurate survey of the pit area at
the Snowstorm Placer. As you know, it is very important to the
Division to have accurate measurements of the pit as soon as
possible in order to calculate a reclamation cost. The existing
mine plan map and aerial photograph from 1996 do not provide an
accurate representation of the pit as it exists today.
Harry informs me that a total station should be used to achieve the
highest degree of accuracy and efficiency for both horizontal and
vertical control. It takes two (2) people to operate the total
station and Harry is one of the Division's most experienced
operator's. Therefore, I request that we enlist Harry's help for
completing a survey of the pit. Two days of Harry's time will be
needed: one for the field survey and one for downloading data and
running the computer program in the office.
Please let me know soon if you agree with this assessment and if
permission is granted by Harry's supervisors. I can then
officially request Harry's help. Harry is willing to help me
perform the survey the week of August 11, 1997.
If all goes well, we will have a final reclamation cost for the
Snowstorm Placer prepared for the August 28, 1997 meeting at 1:30
P.M. with Bernhard Free of Snowstorm Sand & Gravel, LLC.
Thanks for your help!
M:\oss\survey
