Discussion of Capacity: Site application 1/3952 for this facility
was approved on September 19, 1990, fora hydraulic capacity of
0.060 MGD and an organic capacity of 125 //BOOS/day. The initial
design review was completed on October 1, 1990, showing that this
flow and loading could be met. This review used an empirical value
of 0.08 IIBDD removed/day/1000 ft3 to determine the organic
capacity of the polishing pond. However, this value is considered
valid for ponds less than 5' deep in order to maximize the surface
area. Since the existing pond is 18' deep, the decrease in surface
area could affect removal potential, especially since the pond
freezes. An aerator may be required at the inlet end of this pond
in the future. A certification that construction was substantially
completed according to the design as reviewed must be submitted by
the design engineer.
