Bschor, District Ranger
Dear Mr. Bschor:
I am writing this letter concerning the Forest Service pit near
Independence Pass. During your on-site inspection of the pit with
our Maintenance Department, it was decided not to try and save the
small trees from the area to be mined because of the rocky nature of
the soil but to purchase and transplant new trees instead. The
Department will purchase and plant these trees as directed by the
Forest Service. The exact number of trees needed is not known at
this time but could be five or six hundred or more. The trees to be
planted will be lodge pole pine.
Thank you for letting us know that the Forest Service has some trees
available that we could purchase at the Mt. Sopris Nursery for a
cost of about $400 per 1,000.
If I can be of any further assistance in the reclamation of this pit,
please let me know.
Very truly yours,
RGL/jme
cc: MLR
Central Lab
Maintenance (2)
Lance
Pitkin County
Pit File
R.
