Mine,
C-81-037.
Dr. Corley requested an Adjudicatory Hearing April 25, 1992 to
ascertain Harrison Western's responsibilities on two issues at
the G.E.C. West Pit: an exploratory drill hole and erosion
adjacent to an access road. The Division decided to treat his
issues under Rule 5.02.5, a citizen's request for inspection. We
will need to report to Dr. Corley about the outcome of your
investigation.
The Division noted that the drill hole of interest was designated
as NC-7 on EFCI's 1988 Drill Site Location Map. It is located
SW1/4 NE1/4 Section 30, T20S, R69W, 6th P.M. Mr. Glen Miller, a
consultant for EFCI, indicated that his logs of the wells
prefixed by "NC" were drilled by Sheridan Enterprises. This
company was allowed to drill in conjunction with an option to buy
the Newlin Creek Mine in 1978. I believe they permitted their
Fremont County drilling under NOI CX-153-08.
Review of the files suggested that John Walters, at Munger-
McClane (858-3608), was associated with Sheridan Enterprises. I
called him to ask him about the status of outstanding Sheridan
Drilling projects. He indicated that he would have someone
contact me. Several weeks later, I received a phone message from
Allen Meek, (606-288-3289). He indicated that John had contacted
him and that he understood the Division wanted to return a bond.
I never called him back.
Dr. Corley filled all the NC holes on the Newlin Creek Mine with
abandonment fluid following the Phase I bond release inspection.
I would like Sheridan Enterprises to reclaim the road per
Rules 4.21.4(d)(ii) and 4.03.3(1)(d). I would like to see the
road cut filled and stabilized with vegetation. If we gave them
a waiver on that requirement, please let me know the details of
the approved plan.
