Sediment Pond A and the removal of the concrete splitter box which is the outfall of the
pond.
Topsoil was salvaged over 35 acres of the disturbed area on the site. Twenty-one inches of
the Heldt silt clay and 16 inches of Nihill stony loam were removed and were stockpiled on
site. The stockpiles consisted of 59,682 cubic yards. All of this was replaced except for the
topsoil in two stockpiles which will be used for reclamation of the sediment pond.
The sediment control structures will be the last features to be reclaimed at the mine. They
will not be removed until revegetation success standards have been met on the reclaimed
area and runoff from the area meets applicable State and Federal water quality standards.
The sediment control structures will then be regraded, topsoiled, and seeded following the
same procedures as for the surface facilities area.
Operation plans stated in the previous permit for the loadout facility are presently void since
this area was never or disturbed or utilized in conjunction with the mining operation, other
than for water monitoring purposes.
Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine 8 Permit Renewal No. 3
