Ranney Division of Minerals & Geology 1313 Sherman St., Room 215 Denver, CO 80203 Re: King Coal Mine, File No. C-81-035 (PR-04) Dear Mr. Ranney, The Division has reveiwed the information your office sent for the referenced proposal and makes the following comments. Since this is an underground mining operation we anticipate minimal wildlife disturbance. We were not contacted previously be the applicant concerning this revision and so have not responded to them. Potential impacts the applicant should address however, include surface runoff from the the coal stockpiles, refuse pile and portal. If appropriate berms, drainage ditches or ponds are not located on the property, they should be constructed in order to detain the water prior to entering the natural drainage way. Should a refuse pile be located outside of the current permit boundary adequate action should be taken to retain surface runoff. Reclamation plans for surface disturbance should include revegetating with native shrubs and grasses to restore a more natural landscape for wildlife habitat.
