Box 980
Carbondale, Colorado 81623
Re: Construction of Wiers at No. Thompson Creek Mine
Permit C-025-81
Dear Mr. Jones:
In a letter dated September 23, 1983 you indicated that the D.O.W.
conditioned your 401 Permit (WQCD) to not allow construction activities
in Middle Thompson Creek after October 10, 1983. This would prevent you
from constructing the water monitoring weirs. You therefore requested an
extension of the completion deadline until October, 1984.
I contacted Jim Goodyear of the D.O.W. who conducted the review of your
application. He has agreed to grant you an extension to complete the
weirs under several conditions. These conditions, listed below, will be
included as a compliance item in our inspection report:
1. The construction of the weirs may continue to October 14, 1983.
Snowmass should attempt to complete construction by then.
2. If oonstruction cannot be completed, an extension may be yranted
under the condition that operations do not occur on Friday, Saturday, or
Sundays due to hunting season.
3. Mine personnel shall stay on or adjacent to the designated road at
the monitoring site and create as little noise as possible.
With this extension we should expect the weirs to be operational by
November. Please keep me informed on the progress of your work.
Sincer ly, _
~G~~~., f w,,~ ;'~
Robert Liddle
Reclamation Specialist
RL(th
Doc.
