' MINING AND RECLAP1•OtJ PLAN
MT. GUNN[SON N0. 1 PiINE
Gctober, 1979
Revised 9/24/81
necessary, to meet quality standards. It is not anticipated that the
F seam coal is of an acid or iron producing nature. The discharge from
the mine will have a minimal effect upon the existing hydrologic balance.
Operation of the activities at the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Cline to minimize
the amount of disturbed acreage at any one tune will greatly enhance
control of water pollution. Stabilization followed by revegetation with
fast-growing cover will also help control erosion and water pollution.

The loadout facilities consisting of the silo, loadout conveyor, and
loadout building on DZRGb! Railroad right-of-way will be so designed to
prevent polluting the stream (817.180). All transfer points at the silo
and the loadout building will be enclosed, and have dust suppression
(water sprays). The loadout conveyor will be totally enclosed in an en-
closed gallery, where it crosses the river and the CDOH highway bridge.
The loadout building will also be totally enclosed and runoff from the
area impounded within the limits of the facility to prevent runoff into
the stream.
3.3.1.5 Hydrologic Protection Upon Closure or Abandonment
Once mining activities have ceased, all disturbed areas which have not
been regraded, scarified, topsoiled, and reveyetated will be restored
using methods described in detail in the Reclamation Plan, Chapter 4,
of this Application.
Drill Hole Sealing Procedures
No Return Flow - At t~1t. Gunnison Boles drilled v~ith fluids through unsaturated
sands often experience hiyh fluid losses and no return flows at the surface.
Therefore, most holes at tlt. Gunnison are drilled with air until coring
operations into the F seam coal ar•e conducted. Tfrose holes that are drilled
with air or experience no return flows will be sealed in the following

3-48
