The application is for a permit to place <br />dredgetl and fill material for a stream relocatipn of pear <br />Creek near Florence, Fremont County, Colorado. The <br />project invplves the relocation of approximately 10,SQ0 <br />linear feet of Bear Creek and the 15.16 acres of associated <br />wetlands and another 5.52 acres of isolated wetlands in <br />conjunction with the expansion of the limestone mine al the <br />Holnam Quarry. Details of the proposed project are <br />provided below. <br />JOINT PUBLIC NOTICE <br />U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENlS(NEERS AND <br />COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH Att(D ENVIRONMENT <br />Name of Applicant: Holnam Inc., 3500 State Highway 120, Florence, CO <br />81226. <br />Location: The project is located at the Holnam Quarry along Bear Creek <br />near Florence, Fremont County, Colorado, Section 16 and 17, Township <br />19S, Range 68W. <br />Description of Work: To divert 10,800 linear feet of Bear Creek away from <br />the limestone mine area impacting 19.68 acres of wetland to mine 65-70 <br />million cubic yards of limestone in the quarry. Work is expected to begin in <br />2001 to divert the channel and begin constructing the mitigation. Diversion <br />of the channel and mitigation construction is expected to be completed by <br />2002. Mining of the limestone will continue until 2023. <br />Mitigation Proposed tiv the Applicant: The applicant is proposing 19.6 <br />acres of on-site wetland mitigation, a majority of which will be located <br />adjacent to the confluence of Hardscrabble Creek and the Arkansas River <br />in area labeled MS-6 and will be of sirhilar vegetative composition as the <br />impacted wetlands. Additional wetlands will be constructed at MS-4 and <br />MS-2 with a minimum of 1 acre and a maximum of 3 acres at each of <br />these sites. These wetlands will be of the same vegetative composition as <br />MS-6. <br />Plans antl Data: Drawings showing the location of the work site and other <br />data are eOGJosed with this notice. The <br />CDPHE also reviews each project with respect to the anti-degradation <br />provisions in state re9ylations. For the project which is the subject of this <br />public notice, the CDPF)E has preliminarily determined that this project will <br />cause only temporary changes in water quality.
