Coal removal operations during this permit term involve partial extraction of
the "A" seam by underground room and pillar mining in the Coal Gulch area to
the lease limits determined by the permit boundaries.
Mining operations will begin by driving entries into the coal seam at the
northwest corner of the surface facilities area. Main entries for access,
ventilation, and coal removal will be driven. Panel development to remove
coal will begin north of the entries. Coal will be mined using continuous
miners and loaded onto a conveyor for transport to the surface. At the
surface the coal will be crushed and sized and either stockpiled or loaded for
shipment by highway trucks.
After mining the entries will be sealed and the facilities area will be
backfilled and graded to approximate original contour. All outslopes will be
stabilized and all highwalls will be eliminated during backfilling and grading
operations.
Following final backfilling and grading operations, the area will be
retopsoiled with suitable plant growth medium. The redistributed medium will
be tested for fertility.
Revegetation will then be initiated to reduce erosion and provide forage and
cover for wildlife. The area will be reclaimed for wildlife use.
