Jim Fulton
February 5, 2002
Page 2
• Long-term benefits to the community - Mine 1/Eckman Park has demonstrated to the
community how a scenic parcel of Colorado ranchland and wildlife habitat can be mined and
then successfully returned to its full pre-mining function. Mine 1/Eckman Park demonstrates
to the community that the Surface Mining Law works. Mine 1/Eckman Park's successful
mining and reclamation provides a model for other mines in the community.
Exceeds the spirit and intent of the Surface Mining Law - Reclamation at Mine
1/Eckman Park goes beyond protecting the environment while allowing mining. The
operator overcame difficult mining conditions by using innovative reclamation techniques.
These techniques produced reclaimed mine lands that will be a long-term benefit to the
community.
Respectfully submitted,
~"t ~~~
Tom Kaldenbach
Environmental Protection Specialist
c: Sandy Brown, DMG
Dan Hernandez, DMG
