Truckton, and the Stapleton series. Each of these soils, especially the
• Bresser and Truckton soils, indicate sand deposits, but tend to be
somewhat mare gravelly. None of these sails were found on this site.
It appears to be pure Blakeland loamy sand.
In most cases, the organic matter content is medium to low, erosion
hazard is low to nedium, but the wind-blowing hazard is rather high due
to the fine texture of the sail. The sand deposits found under the soil
were primarily derived from aeolian sources, sa the hazard from wind
erasion is quite understandable.
This sail provides excellent sites for building as it does not have
any appreciable shrink-swell characteristics. In same places it is used
for rangeland, but its productivity is law and its need for intensive
management is rather great.
The usual native vegetation is dominated by western wheatgrass,
• side-oats grams, and needle and thread. However, few areas exist that
still have the "native" vegetation. Most areas where range uses were
predoninant in the past were interseeded in order to increase
production. Also, even short-term overgrazing greatly alters the
composition. Farming is possible on this soil, but because of its
porosity very intensive irrigation is needed and even then it does not
produce well. Trees can 6e grown near irrigation ditches and water
hales, but without a ready supply of water, tree survival is very low.
On the whale, uses other than urban construction or marginal rangeland
are simply not cast effective.
•
F'AGE .?
