EXTRACTIDN ALONG ACADEMY BOU~EVARDp Currently, Academy Boulevard has
some high steep slopes on bath the east and west side. The Colorado
• Department of Highways is quits interested in having these slopes at
least reduced and where passible removed. Discussions hetween Highways
and Daniel's Sand have occurred several times in the past and 6aniel's
Sand expressed an interest in doing this, but realized that such an
action would probably not be legal under the Mined Land Reclamation Act.
Therefore, this aspect is included in the mining and reclamation plan of
this amendment.
The exact procedure to 6e used in reducing these slopes is highly
dependent upon exactly which slope one is tal4:ing shout. Because of
various situations on each slope, each one must 6e handled separately.
Same will be lowered from the top while others would 6e lowered from the
mining side by simply removal of the working face. The final result
• though will be to produce, in sane areas, a "berm" along Academy
Boulevard shout 12 feet higher than the roadway, while in other areas
there will 6e no herm or it will be quite small. On the south end of
the operation and the east side of Academy the level will 6e very nearly
the same as the road level. This may also occur in a few other minor
areas, but in all cases where there would 6e no berm, there are no long,
steep slopes next to the roadway to present a hazard. Where the herm
would occur it will act to prevent the passibility of vehicles "soaring"
off the road and into the pit while reducing the slopes so the roadway
is not in a gap that has been compared to a canyon.
•
F'AGE 6 OF 11 - EXHIBIT D
