Mr. R. Burgess
8/23!02
4. Revegetation
In your comment letter, you provided Homestake with new guidance regarding the recommended
seed mix and application rate for the project area. Based on this guidance, the seed mix and
application rates selected for the project are provided in Table 2.
Table 2 Seed mixture for final reclamation at the Bulldog Mine
Common name Scientific name Pounds PLS per acre
Slender Wheatgrass Agropyron trachycaulum 9.0
Western Wheatgrass Agropyron smithii 13.0
Rocky Mountain Penstemon o) Penstemon strictus 2.0
Blue Flax t~) Adenolinum lewisii 1.0
Arizona Fescue Redondo ti) Festuca arizonica 1.0
Total 22.0 to 26.0
(1) 7fiese species are oprierial
Seed will be placed on the disturbed area using a broadcast spreader. If considered necessary, the
topsoil will be scarified prior to seeding. After seeding, fertilizer will be spread on the reseeded
area to promote growth. Fertilizer type will be based on general recommendations made in the
lab soils analyses attached.
5. Maintenance
Homestake currently has an active stormwater permit with the CDHPE for the Bulldog mine.
The new bypass facilities will fall under this permit, which requires routine inspection and
maintenance. Inspection and maintenance will continue for the duration of the stormwater permit
and the current Operating Plan filed with the Forest Service.
6. Sprinkler System Removal
Homestake will remove the sprinkler system materials prior to addition of a sail cover on the
9360 dump.
Adit Closure
Contingent on approval by the DMG, Homestake will close the old abandoned adit that is located
just to the north of the 9700 dump. Closure will consist of constructing an access to the adit,
removing any debris and filling in the opening of the adit with native material. As part of this
closure, Homestake will also remove the minor amount of old waste rock that was generated from
the adit and move it to the 9700 dump. Details, or changes, regarding this work will of course
depend on DMG recommendations / concurcence.
This work will result in some additional disturbance from that shown on the plans in TR-l 1. The
disturbed area consists primarily of talus, which may be used as a source of riprap for the
overflow channels. Any new disturbance will be regraded. Since the area currently consists of
talus, placement of soil and re-seeding is inappropriate.
