Summary and Resolution of Interaction: Telephone discussion with Erich Bower on the following
matters:
1. Henderson is compiling a technical revision for submittal to install a ground water interception well field
below the tailing impoundment. This type of facility is considered a "permit condi[iorl protective of
ground water" under Rule 3.1.7, and does not require that points of compliance and numeric protection
levels be addressed in the TR application.
2. The crusher at the mill site is under demolition. Ore residue, or dead bed, accumulated in the crusher pit
is compacted and cemented such [hat it cannot be excavated without blasting. The Operator needs to know
what [he standard for dead bed removal will be. The dead bed is a potential source for acid rock drainage,
but since the crusher pit will be backfilled and capped, is lined with a concrete foundation. and is located
out of drainage ways and above the water table, de minimus amounts of dead bed remaining; in the pit will
not cause ARD. The standard for removing the material is [o apply the best reasonable effort using
excavators and possibly some degree of hand mucking, but the pit does clot need to rinsed with high
pressure water and vacummed. The Operator was notified that [he Division must inspect [he crusher pit
prior to backfilling.
3. The 3-Dam seepwater project is being completed. The old 3-Dam pump station has remained operational
as a backup system over the past winter. The Division, through the phone conversation and by this memo,
provided the go-ahead to remove the 3-Dam pump station concurrently with finalization of the seepwater
project.
