The slide is along the
top edge of the road cut between stations 155+00 and 157+00. The
bottom portion of the slump had blocked a section of TAHRD-15.
The weather on Friday was a combination of rain and snow
throughout most of the day. The ground conditions were very wet
and muddy. we were unable to detect where the water was exiting
at the bottom of the slope because the entire area was wet. The
furthest extent of the slide was approximately 50 feet from the
three pole wooden powerline structure located at coordinates of
5,600 S and 6,325 W. Seneca Coal Company is the surface owner for
the area both inside and outside the existing permit boundary.
we placed a few visual monitoring stakes at the top of the slide
to detect whether the slide is still moving and monitor it on a
daily basis. To prevent any additional water from further
saturating the slide area, we cut a diversion ditch around the
perimeter of the slide with our D-5 dozer on Saturday morning. We
also cleaned up the blocked section of TAHRD-15 to establish
positive drainage again. The slide was monitored on several
occasions on Saturday and Sunday and there appears to be no
additional movement at the present time.
~~
Seneca Coal Company • P.O.
