Dept. of Natural Resources
This correspondence is documentation of our discussions with the Division on [he
6th of June. The purpose of the visit was to discuss our proposed new permit
which we plan to submit in July of 1985. We plan [o permit the entire proposed
mining area. Topics discussed were additional baseline data, overburden sam-
pling and alluvial valley floors (AVF's).
The following is our understanding of what we discussed. Please let me know if
our summary is inaccurate.
As you recall, we discussed the suitability of our baseline data for air, wild-
life, vegetation, soils, macroinvertebrate species, surface and ground water,
and historic resources. Based on Mr. Mike Savage's responae, we will consider
[he data in our existing permit adequate. We will update existing data as we
prepare [he new permit and provide information on any new surface or subsurface
areas not in our existing permit.
We also discussed overburden sampling. The Division asked [hat we provide a
written proposal. As a result, a proposal was sent dated June 13, 1984. We are
waiting on a response. Hopefully, your reply will be in time for drilling to
take place this summer.
The third issue was the probable alluvial valley floor (AVF) in Flume Gulch.
Ms. Thompson said [h a[ one AVF monitoring well midway up the colluvial slope
would be sufficient. We were asked to monitor all AVF well parameters monthly,
June through November (the growing season). After November, we are [o moni[ur
only field parameters quarterly. However, access problems are preventing
P.O. Box 187 Craig, Colorado 81626 (303) 824-4401
