Memo [o File -2- July 24, 1996
.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
- Larry states the cracks are in an area from the west edge of the longwall, going east about
two sections, over a section about 112 to 314 mile wide.
- Again says he was "conveniently" left to walk off the mountain.
(Note: Today Michael Boulay spoke with me by phone. He stated that Larry Mautz
directed Mautz' daughter, Boulay, and Every to walk down a gully area for about one
mile to show an area of damage. After about ahalf-mile walk downhill, Mautz told the
three to go back up and get the vehicles. This took some time. When Boulay. Every,
and Mautz' daughter returned to the spot where Larry had been, Larry was nowhere to be
found. Boulay and Mautz' daughter called out to Larry numerous times with no response.
A decision was made. to proceed downhill. Upon arriving at the Mautz ranch, Boulay told
Mautz' daughter to go back up the hill to find her dad.)
(Note: Mautz' daughter was wearing a large caliber handgun.)
- Larry states there are numerous areas where cracking has resulted in aspen and vegetation
die-off.
- Larry states the forest is dead, and the mountain is shattering.
- Larry states that if he has to cancel further hunter reservations, MCC will be writing a
check.
- Larry stated Boulay didn't seem to have time to view the site.
(Note: I stated that Mike spent many hours with the Mautzes in an effort to address the
Mautz concerns.)
DAB/bjw
\BIW \MAUTZ.DAB
