Mount, Senior Reclamation Specialist
FROM: George D. VanSlyke, Supervising Geologist
Colorado Division of Water Resources Cj
SUBJECT: Varna Companies Inc, Pit No. 1, File No. M-7Q4-052
Section 31, T3N, R67W,
Water Division 1, Water District 5
We have reviewed the application for the Varra Pit No. 1, as per your request of May 26,
1992. This application is to amend an existing pit to allow for the mining of future phases
of the sand and gravel operation. The existing pit does intercept ground water and
reclamation includes leaving the disturbed area as lakes. The operator has applied to this
office for a substitute supply plan and has a pre-1989 agreement for augmentation water.
All applicable SB-120 fees have been paid. However, the operator's well permit
applications were returned in 1990 as unacceptable and have never been refiled with this
office. Due to this, the application and plan are not considered in effect until such time
as the valid well permit has been issued.
Because of the issue concerning the well permit, we cannot recommend approval until this
has been addressed. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to
contact this office.
cc: Alan Berryman, Division Engineer
Bill Gambrell, Water Commissioner
