Environment, without first jumping through a litany of other regulatory hoops unrelated
to the stormwater program.
AU Mining has also had a BLM regional representative threaten to trespass onto patented
ground underground of the mine because `it is BLM Policy to be able to do so'. This
same person alerted the Mine Safety and Health Administration to conduct a surprise
inspection in order to classify the mine as abandoned thereby allowing the Federal agent
to cut locks and go underground.
In summary, I am happy to speak candidly to the Commissioners and community about
my concerns regarding the Lake Fork Watershed Group and its activities. I strongly
encourage the community to keep an open and wary mind to the past and ongoing efforts
of the group. Your environment is healthy and stable. Contrary to what you have been
led to believe, the watershed concerns are neither significant nor problematic.
I have met many members of the community and have been able to reach out and help
them understand the true nature and perceived risks and benefits of the Golden Wonder
Mine. I would like to extend my hand to continue these relations and help the
community to better understand its own environment, and be able to make its own
judgment about the concems within it.
Thank you sincerely,
Karmen King/Aquatic ToxicologisUGGI
4
