material is salvaged from the mud pit areas and placed in the topsoil stockpile. The mud pits are about <br />20' x 10' x 6'. Any runoff water and/or water/drilling mud mixture is generally collected in the mud pit. <br />The mud pits effectively serve as the sediment control structures for the disturbance during drilling. <br />Sediment control of the drill pad area is also achieved by one or more ditch-berm constructed for the <br />purpose or by installing silt fence, straw bales or rock check sediment traps. During the grazing period <br />from December 1 through May 15, the mud pits will be left in a reasonablydry condition so they do not <br />pose a hazard to sheep. <br />Upon successful drilling and hole completion, the overburden from the mud pits is backfilled and <br />smoothed out. The disturbed area (drill site and mud pits) is ripped to a minimum depth of one foot <br />below grade prior to topsoil replacement. Stockpiled topsoil is spread evenly back over the disturbed <br />site. Sediment control of the disturbed area will be maintained during revegetation according to the <br />measures described above. A seed mix approved by the DMG is broadcast seeded and raked in. <br />Access to the hole is necessary to monitor the success of the de-gassing effort. Access roads that <br />may be used during drilling and monitoring of vent holes will be scarified and reseeded the next fall <br />after such access is no longer required. <br />I.A.B Underground Transportation Rubber tired vehicles are used to carry personnel and supplies <br />from the surface to the underground mining area. <br />Coal is transported from the working areas by belt conveyors. The slope conveyor delivers the coal to <br />the surface coal handling facilities. <br />I.B SurtaceSupportPacilities <br />Before the run-of-mine (ROM) coal can be shipped to the power plant, all or part of it is processed in a <br />preparation plant to remove some of the impurities. Coal handling and preparation facilities have been <br />constructed in the SE1/4, Sec. 4, T2N, R101 W (Maps 1 and 15). <br />1.6.1 Coal Handling and Storage The ROM coal is transported out of the mine portal on a 54-inch <br />conveyor belt. A series of conveyors then transports the coal through the various storage and <br />preparation facilities. All conveyors are partially covered or totally enclosed to reduce dust emissions <br />and protect the belt from the weather. ROM coal is delivered directly to the rotary breaker. <br />In the rotary breaker, large rocks and foreign material are removed from the ROM coal.
