iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
DATE: October 1; 1987
T0: Susan Mowry
FROM: Karen Heliner-' -
RE: 1986 ANNUAL HYDROLOGY REPORT, SOMERSET MINE
Since I could not find annual hydrology reports for previous years, I compared
the data submitted for 1986 to baseline data collected during 1980, 81 and 84.
Ground Water
The analysis taken from Sample Point H-10 Powerline Well showed/ with exception
of iron (total), characteristics similar to the ground water Sampled from
inside the mine during 1980, 81 and 84.
Average iron (total) content (mg/1)
1980 .237
1981 .475
1984 ,18
1986 10.9
The high average iron content is not the result of one 'abnormally high data
point, but is the result of consistently high readings throughout the year.
Surface Water
Flows
The Hubbard Creek flow rates showed above average flows from the beginning of
the year and below average flows during June. These variations are most
likely due to local weather conditions.
Water Quality
Metals, suspended solids and total dissolved solids showed above average
values during the spring and below average values during June. Again, this
seems to correlate to local weather conditions and the volume of flow: Again,
the iron (total) content was consistently high at Monitoring Site H-1 located
in Hubbard Creek - below fan.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
