Box 176
Oak Creek, Colorado 30467
RE: Edna Strip Mine (C-SO-001)
Moffat Pit Dewatering
Dear Mr. Beverlin:
W'e have received and revieweu your teller in response to the required revision listed iR the
Fdna Mine inspection report dated ADril 2, 1993. Your letter referenced Section 3.5.3.1 of the
Edna Mine permit, which addresses dewatering of the Moffat Pit. Om original concern, which
was protection of the west collection ditch during pit dewatering, was not addressed in that
section. After discussing the matter with you today, it is our understanding that the stability
and function of the ditch will not be compromised if the pump hose outlet is placed well inside
,hP ditch, parallel to the ditch sides. Prov;ded P~rM nlacec the nmm~ hose in the descrihed
manner and closely monitors the ditch for erosion or siltation, we agree that there will not
likely be a problem with pumping pit ~hrater to the collection ditch. P&M should be aware that
t(te ditch must be maintained as designed. As stated in our telephc :e conversation earlier
today, we will not require a minor revision far pumping '.Moffat Pit water into the west
c.^,ilection ditch.
Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L Morrison
Reclamation Specialist
SLM\042193.
