c. The list as presented to me was indicted to be preliminary and
incomplete.
d. I would advise you to consult persons experienced in organic
chemistry in environmental media, in particular someone familiar with
tire burns.
e. This list could change as background reading continues.
Following is a list of potential materials that might appear in residues and waters
from uncontrolled burning of tires:
Naphthalene
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such
Thiozol amines
Substitute benzenes
Several linear hydrocarbons
Poly-chlorinated dibenzodioxins
Poly-chlorinated dibenzofluorans
Cd
Cr
Ni
Zn
as anthracene or benzoalcopyrene(sp?)
I would iterate again, in a different way, my reluctance to advise that you use this
list in any way. It is provided for your information with the strong advice that you
seek more assistance in determining a proper analyte list.
For the moment, the list of analytes you proposed in your fax letter of yesterday
is adequate to commence testing. However, given the uncertainty of the analyte
list, it remains likely that this test of soluble organics would be rendered moot
upon further examination of the literature on tire ash.
I will let you know more as information develops.
Sincerely,
Harry H.
