White ~iver Nahcolite M~erals III IIIIII~IIIIIIIII
j;~
RECEIVED ~~~"'~~
May 27, 1997 MAY 2 9199]
Mr. John Mehlhoff, Area Manager Diviabn of minerals ~ Geobpy
White River Resource Area
Bureau of Land Management
P.O. Box 928
Meeker, CO 81641
Subject: Notification of Vegetation Sampling Plan for 1997
Dear Mr. Mehlhoff:
Per my phone conversation with Mr. Keith Whitaker of your staff, White River
Nahcolite plans to modify the vegetation sampling program from what has been
conducted in the past. Control or "representative" surrounding vegetation has
been sampled in May-June or early growth and in July-August at peak of the
growing season. Control vegetation sampling has been performed for the past six
years. Typically production is greatest during the July-August sampling and with
the information collected in the past, WRN has a good baseline of early spring
production and species cover. Per the monitoring plan for the WRN project and
the BLM Record of De;cision, the early vegetation evaluation may be required.
Therefore, WRN plans. to discontinue the early vegetation sampling, starting in
1997. No change in the monitoring section of the Mine Plan will be required.
WRN will continue to :sample the control and revegetation sites in July-August
per the Mine Plan to dl;termine if revegetation objectives are met. Also, the
DMG are being adviseli of the change in plans. If there are any questions, please
contact me or Bob Warneke.
Sincerely,
~~~
Ed Baker, Environmental/Safety Manager
cc:
White Rlvsr Nehcollte Mlnsrels, Llmitsd Debility Company
P.
