RECOMMENDATIONS
It is my recommendation that for the soil found in the present cuts
and fills, no cut or fill exceed 1:1 (100$) or 4U feet and that
drainage along the roads be kept maintained and open. Although the
calculated safety factors for the road cuts and fills are
sufficiently high to meet the published minimum standards,
non-homoge::ious soil and the increased pore pressure caused by
saturation of the soil especially in the Spring can cause changes in
the soil structure, local fractures, and other factors that would
lower the calculated safety factor and could reduce the strength of
the soil along the shear plane to below 1.0 resulting in failure. A
cut or fill that is greater than these limits could decrease the
factor of safety to a level possibly below a reasonable factor of
safety and therefore should be analyzed as a special case. None of
the present road cuts or fills exceed the criteria as analyzed
herein.
