This inspection also
served to assess current site conditions for use in updating the reclamation cost estimate, ensuring the current financial
warranty is adequate to reclaim the site.
The mine identification sign was not observed and must be installed per the requirements of Rule 3.1.12 (1) that state: The
operator shall post a sign at the entrance to the mine site which shall be clearly visible from the access road and specify the
following; a) the name of the operator, b) indicate that a reclamation perm@ for the operation has been issued by the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board, and; c) the permR number. The lads of an identification sign is noted as a problem
with the corrective action(s) and correction date specified on the last page of this report.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site.
The site remains unmined, but vegetation clearing has taken place on the initial pit area. This clearing appears to have taken
place over a year ago resuRing in a stand of annual weeds across the cleared area. The infestation, i(not controlled, will most
likely hinder and/or delay successful reclamation of this site and contribute to off-site spreading and establishment of these
weeds. A weed cordrol plan developed in consultation with, and approved by, the appropriate lagl weed control authodty must
be submitted as a technical revision to this permit Weed infestation is noted as a problem, with the corrective action(s) and
correction date specified on the fast page of this report Significant progress toward control of on-site weeds must be
demonstreted within three years to avoid potential Board action.
Additional site disturbance is limited to two areas where importation and dumping of materials has taken place. In the
southeast end of the permit area it appears that two tractor-trailer loads of trash and construction scrap were dumped. This
debris needs to be removed and properly disposed of, At the south central sda boundary, an estimated 150 dump truck toads
of fill material and loads of tom-up asphaR have been dumped. The operator needs to specify the proposed final disposition
of these materials. For materials imported for use as permanent fill, the operator will need to submit the notice. required by
Rule 3.1.5(9).
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the approved
reclamation plan, DMG has updated the reclamation cost estimate (copy enclosed). Clearly, when this stta Is acWated and
is operated axording to the approved mine plan, the operation will be significantly under-bonded. However, with the minimal
current disturbance at the site, the current financial warranty remains adequate. However, prior to initiating excavation,
Grend Junction Plpe b Supply Co. must submit adequate financial warcanty to DMG in the amount of E78,698 as
shown on the enclosed reclamation cost estimate. Please review the enclosed figures as soon as possible and contact
our offrce if any calculation errors are noted.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3id Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243368.
1 & E Contact Address ce:
^ CE
NAME Edward Settle ^ BL
OPERATOR Grand Junction Pioa & Suooly Co. ^ FS
STREET P.
