1 <br />' CNAPTERTHREE nttected Environment <br />' The Affected Environment Chapter describes the present condition of the environment within the <br />Project Area, prior to the initiation of the Proposed Action or any alternative. The Project Area <br />includes the 1,030-acre Piceance Site, 43.4-mile pipeline corridor, and 304-acre Pazachute Site. <br />' The material presented here has been guided by management issues identified by the BLM, <br />public scoping, and by interdisciplinary field analysis of the Project Area. The affected <br />environment is chazacterized for the following resource azeas: <br />Geology <br />Soils <br />Surface Water and Surface Water Drainages <br />Groundwater <br />' Meteorology and Air Quality <br />Noise <br />' Vegetation <br />Wildlife <br />Wetlands <br />Threatened and Endangered Species <br />' Cultwal and Paleontological Resources <br />' Land Use and Recreation <br />Visual Resources <br />Socioeconomics <br />' Transportation <br />Hazardous Materials <br />' Health and Safety <br />3.1 GEOLOGY <br />' 3.1.1 Regional Geology <br />Geologic information pertinent to the Envirorunental Impact Statement (EIS) is summarized <br />below on a regional and site-specific basis. <br />' 3.1.1.1 Physiography and Topography <br />' The Project Area is located within the Piceance Creek Sedimentary Basin. The Piceance Creek <br />Basin is a broad, asymmetric, southeast-northwest structural and topographic basin located in <br />northwest Colorado, with an azeal extent of approximately 7,225 squaze miles in parts of Moffat, <br />' Rio Blanco, Garfield, Mesa, Delta, Pitkin, and Gunnison counties. The Piceance Creek Basin is <br />bordered by the White River Uplifr to the east, the West Elk Mountains to the southeast and <br />' Geology 3-1 <br />
