Waters flowing from this mine were measured for
pH and conductance. The results were: pH= 6.4,
conductivity= 540 mir.:ro semens. Following the study of this mine,
I hiked up the old road to where it intersected the waste pile of
the now active Portal #6 of the Golden Wonder mine complex. I
sampled the water just below the waste pile, directly in the
center of the drainage. The pH of the water here was 2.9 and the
conductance was 1560 micro semens. On request of Julie Fike I
return :d to Portal #6 on July 25. The readings I got this time
were pH= 2.7, conductance= %1990 micro semens.
S:utunary of equipment used for study
pH met:~r: Oakton waterproof pHTestr 2
^'he accuracy of this instrument is +-0.2pH. Compensation
for tr;,t~perature is automatically adjusted for by the instrument.
c'alibiation of the instrument with pH 7 and 4 solution was done
just before hiking to the site.
COndUC':anCe meter: Oakton TDSTestr3
'his instrument has automatic temperature compensation and
an accuracy of +-2$FS. This was also calibrated just before the
hike a-: to the site.
