Banta, Director
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Department of Natural Resources
215 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Banta:
OCT 231989
NIlN~L7 Lf11vf.)
RECLANIATIQ~' o!'n!~!gN
This letter serves as the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement's (OSM) concurrence for the proposed Phase I bond release at
Grand Mesa Coal Company's Red Canyon Mine (permit number C-81-034) near
Geda redge, Colorado, The OSM Albuquerque Field Office (AFO) agrees with
the proposed decision for this partial release, which is dated
August 25, 1989. Public notice requirements have been met, and AFO has
received a letter of release concurrence for this Federal lands mine
from the Bureau of Land Management.
The Division's proposed reduction of $111,000 from the total bond of
$185,000 represents an appropriate 60 percent Phase I release of bond,
with a remaining total bond of $74,000 remaining for maintenance and
final release. The disturbed, reclaimed area of approximately 70 acres
out of the approximate 610 acres permit area, appears to be adequately
bonded at $74,000 for maintenance and Phase II and III liability.
Thanks to you and your staff in coordinating this bond release through
our office.
Sincerely,
~ Gt`
Robert H.
