III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
E~~.4
Coa/Company Seneca Coal Company
September 24, 1997
Ms. Erica Crosby
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 ~FCF~UCC
Denver, CO 80203-2273
RE: Seneca II-W Mine Permit C-82-057, TR28 SEP 2 9 1J9i
Dear Ms. Crosby: ~'b-~.i~~n~ ~ ~.~~~~r~m~r•.' C'oob~,
Enclosed please find three copies of an application for TR28 to
the Seneca II-W Mine Permit C-82-057. This technical revision
changes the postmining topography in the 006 Gulch along the
• southwest cropline in the A pit.
Seneca is proposing to backfill a portion of the 006 Gulch
directly adjacent to the cropline boxcut in the A pit. Figure No.
1 is attached showing the typical boxcut cross section in this
area, with the proposed postmining surface. The original slope in
this area down to the 006 Gulch is nearly vertical. As is shown
in Figure 1, this slope would have been disturbed by the boxcut
anyway, yet would have been impossible to reclaim without
disturbing in the gulch itself. By backfilling this portion of
the 006 Gulch, Seneca will be able to reclaim this area with a
resulting, and much safer and stable 4:1 postmine slope. The
volume calculations were not changed in Tab 20, because no
additional amount of overburden is being removed. The actual
postmining topography in this area has been rearranged to
accommodate this revised slope. Approximately 250,000 cubic yards
have been shifted to accomplish the revised topography, as well
as maintain the approximate original contour for this area.
The exhibits containing the pre and post mining cross sections
for S-5 and S-6 have been updated to show the new configurations.
The post mining stream channel profiles for 006 Gulch and 006-SE1
have also been revised based on the appropriate modifications.
The postmining drainage channel designs were not affected for
either of the two drainages, which are contained in Attachment
• 20-1.
Seneca Coal Company • P.O.
