<br />land woman was killed Satur•
<br />day during an accidenf at
<br />work.
<br />Helen L. Pittington, 52, died
<br />from injuries suffered when
<br />her husband, who was driving a
<br />front-end loader, backed up and
<br />struck her, according to Sgt.
<br />Robert Cook of the Latimer
<br />County Sheriff's Office:
<br />°Investigators believe that
<br />this unfortunate and tragic in-
<br />cident was accidental," he said
<br />iD a written statement.
<br />Investigators said 'Robert
<br />Pittington, 55, did not see his
<br />wife as they worked in an in-
<br />dustrial area to help open a
<br />sand and gravel supply busi-
<br />ness.
<br />The business was incorporat-
<br />ed by Helen Pittington in July
<br />under the name of High Plains
<br />Sand and Gravel LLC.
<br />Witnesses didn't see the im-
<br />pact but said the woman was
<br />working on foot about 200 yards
<br />away, then approached the
<br />area where her husband oper-
<br />ated the vehicle.

<br />She was born Dec. 1,
<br />1950, in Williston, N.D.,
<br />to S. and Pearl M.
<br />Murphy Johnson. She
<br />was raised on a dairy
<br />farm in Plentywood, fir;,
<br />Mont., and moved to
<br />Greeley in 1988. She
<br />~aduated from tree- Pitti
<br />ley Central High
<br />School in 1969, and attended the
<br />university of Northern Col-
<br />orado.
<br />She met and married Robert
<br />C. Pittington in Greeley on July
<br />25, 1979. They made their home
<br />in Loveland where together
<br />they awned and operated Pit-
<br />tington Construction, Ina for 82
<br />years. The construction busi-
<br />ness primarily involved moun-
<br />tain road development and un-
<br />derground utilities.
<br />She enjoyed car racing, hand
<br />crafts, and writing poems, vers-
<br />es and stories for the Fence
<br />Post, She also lik~i to cook and
<br />be with her family.
<br />She was a member of the
<br />Northern Colorado Corvette
<br />Club.
<br />Mrs Plttington is survived by
<br />hot husband, Robert C. Pitting-
<br />ton of Loveland; a son, Robert
<br />C. Pittington Jr. and wife Can-
<br />dice of Loveland; two daugh-
<br />ters, Tanya Romero and hus-
<br />band Ken, and Tamara
<br />Daskam and husband Michael,
<br />all of Loveland; her mother,
<br />Pearl M. Johnson of
<br />Greeley; two brothers,
<br />Larry ,Johnson and
<br />wife Dune of Anchor
<br />age, Alaska, and
<br />' ;. Daniel R. Johnson and
<br />~'~ wife Katharine of
<br />~~~- Broomfield; two sis-
<br />tern, Janet Cron and
<br />'~ husband Barney of
<br />ngton Flaxinn, N.D., and
<br />Virginia Kinney and
<br />husband'Michael of EYans; fa-
<br />ther- and mother-in-law, Clif-
<br />ford J. and Rosalie Pittin¢ton of
<br />two sisters-in-]aw; four grand-
<br />children, Wyatt, Clay and Annie
<br />Girton and Pearl Daskam, all of
<br />Loveland; nieces and nephews
<br />She was preceded in death by
<br />her father, Itoy S. Johnson, in
<br />1999.
<br />Cremation has been conduct-
<br />ed.
<br />Memorial services will be 10
<br />a.m. Wednesday at the Church
<br />of the Nazarene, 807 W. 29th St.,
<br />Loveland. The Rev. Jim Lynch
<br />will officiate.

<br />80538. A memorial will be de-
<br />cided at a later date.
