The meeting was attended by you, representing the Division, myself for
MCC, and Ms Liane Mattson of the USFS. This response will update the Division and the USFS to
May 19, 2000, as to the status and progress made by MCC to extinguish the combustion event and
begin interim reclamation of drill site pads and roads associated with the event that began on or about
January 28, 2000.
MCC has successfully completed 43 drill holes in the mine, installed seventeen cement/ fly-ash seals,
pumped 40 million gallons of water to the drill sites, and has made substantial progress in
extinguishing the source(s) of the combustion in the abandoned gob area. Our contractors, Halliburton
and Lang Drilling, have de-mobilized from the area. Chesnik Construction is still onsite and will be
responsible for performing interim reclamation activities. Interim reclamation activities include the re-
grading of sub-soil to approximate original contour, re-distribution of topsoil, seeding, fertilizing,
mulching, and installation of sediment control measures. Interim reclamation will be performed in
areas that are no longer needed now or during the mining of Panel 13A.for monitoring or water
injection.
Enclosed with this letter are the spread sheet, maps, and drawings depicting the drill hole locations,
seal Locations, emergency drill hole data, typical equipment list, surface disturbed areas, and azeas of
projected interim reclamation.
